WITH SINCEREST APOLOGIES TO ALBERT EINSTEIN, SIR ISAAC NEWTON, STEPHEN HAWKING, NIELS BOHR, WOLFGANG PAULI, WERNER HEISENBERG, MICHIO KAKU, KEVIN HORRIGAN, LEON LEDERMAN, ENRICO FERMI, CLINT EASTWOOD AND ALL THE BOYS AND GIRLS AT NASA, JPL AND CERN, BIRK EXPLAINS TIME, IF YOU HAVE THE TIME:
Step One: With a ruler, draw a straight line on an 11 x 17 sheet of paper. Call this line a unit of TIME measurement, it can be a minute, a second, nano-second or an eon
Step Two: Make the line 12" long and straight as an arrow
Step Three: Name the line, "The Arrow of TIME" - Stephen Hawking, will like that. He is the Lucasian Professor of Mathmatics and the world-renowned physicist who wrote extensively about TIME.
Step Four: Draw an arrow pointing to the RIGHT - according to Hawking The Arrow of Time is a one way direction from past to present and relentlessly on to the future.
Step Five: Get some string and cut off SEVEN (7 ) EQUAL - 12-inch lengths
Step Six: Lay one string down exactly along The Arrow of TIME line.
Step Seven: This represents TIME in one Universe. If you looked head-on at the string from the beginning or end (Alpha end Omega end), you would see a "point" - the entire line is made up of points in TIME.
Step Seven: Now, Einstein said that there was such a thing as the Space-Time Continuum. And he also believed that it was curved. So? Well, any line that is even very slightly curved has an arc - which means that if the arc is extended that it will eventually bend around to form a full circle.
This could be the basis for the Karmic idea: "What goes around, comes around." Fritjof Capra, Bart Kosko and the Buddha might like that notion. But, I'm a little fuzzy on thinking about this point.
Step Eight: Now, according to most physicists, THE BIG BANG - which created the universe in Space came from the explosion of a "singularity" - something or "no-thing" that was so infinitely small and dense that it contained all the matter in the universe.
Including the stuff in you and me.
Step Nine: But, according to the Bible it was GOD who created the universe and kicked it off with THE WORD...Let there be light!
I think the physicists and the advocates of creative intelligence (aka God) are both right.
Here's my notion that will make both camps equally unhappy.
My theory is: THE BIG BANG was the sound of the BIG THOUGHT being verbalized by THE BIG THINKER, the Creative force of the universe.
GOD or the "singularity" seem to me to be one-side of the same massless one-sided coin/point. Or as Leon Lederman observed in his book, The God Particle, "If the universe is the answer, what is the question?"
I think Leon is truly on to something...stay with me now...
The sequence before the BIG BANG had to go something like this: 1) BIG REALIZATION (God Self-Consciousness contemplation existence ) 2) BIG THOUGHT (creative idea), 3) BIG SOUND (the VIBRATION of the articulation of idea aka THE WORD) 4) BIG BANG ( which was just the sound of the manifestation of THE WORD - "Let there be light!" ) - from that point/singularity/God, flows all "quanta" - atomic and subatomic matter, the speed of light, the speed of thought, all time, you and me and the McRib.
NOTES: Keep the following ideas in mind, but buckle up for a mind-bending ride on The Screaming Beagle...I named it after Snoopy, because I love to snoop around in the recesses of the Human-space-time-mind-brain-soul continuum.

Light is both a WAVE and a particle (photon).
Sound (the voice of God or the explosion of the BIG BANG) is a sound Wave with a frequency of vibration(s)
All matter in the Univese vibrates - so it has a frequency that can be measured in a WAVE
My pal Dr. Arno Penzias who won the Nobel Prize for Physics for discovering "The Echo of the Big Bang" which is the identical background vibration/noise/radiation constant that you find wherever you point your sensors in Space.
Einstein believed that the Space-Time continuum exists. And is curved.
Step Ten: Now, take another piece of string and lay it 2" above the first piece of string on your Arrow of Time line.
You have just created TIME in a parallel universe. Another dimension for TIME to travel in.
Step Eleven: Just for fun, let's allow The Arrow of TIME to be a two-way street in this Universe.
So TIME here can flow from future to present to past and past to present to past and future to present to future. H.G. Wells would like this highway for his Time Machine.
Look out future here we come...at the speed of light...or maybe even faster. Like the speed of thought...what if the human mind was the way to Time Travel and the human brain was the Time Machine?
NOTE: Do these parallel Universes exist unbeknownst to each other? Or, are they conscious of the existence of intersections or interactions.
As my Grandma used to say, "God only knows what He was thinking?"
Step Twelve: Now add a 3rd string 2" below your Arrow of TIME. In this universe, you can make The Arrow of TIME modulate from left to right or right to left back to a point that you select. Think of it as a "re-bound button" - every so often TIME automatically re-bounds on itself...like in 2012 when the Mayan Calendar ends.

Step Thirteen: Now take a 4th piece of string and lay it over the first string and the second string above it in a WAVE pattern. BUT don't let the wave dip below your original Arrow of TIME.
Now you have an intersecting universe - lets have time flow both ways in this WAVY universe - that is interacting with the other two. Note the places where the WAVE line crosses the 2 parallel lines. Could these be time warps, worm holes or inter-dimensional portals??
Step Fourteen: Now take a 5th piece of string and lay it over the first string and the third string below it in a WAVE pattern. BUT don't let the wave dip above your original Arrow of TIME.
Now you have a 2nd intersecting universe - lets have time flow ONE WAY in this 2nd WAVY universe - that is interacting with the other two. Note the places where the WAVE line crosses the 2 parallel lines.
More potential "points of contact" - ingress and egress??
Step Fifteen: Now take the 6th piece of string and lay it in either a straight line or wave pattern at 90-degrees to all the other pieces of string.
Note the intersecting points. Michio Kaku Ph.D would like this...it's kinda like String Theory.
It's also a lot like the ancient Vedic concept called the Net Of Indra...wherein the universe was envisioned as a net stretching off in all directions.
At each intersecting point there was a perfectly-faceted diamond (a creation of God) called a human being that reflected the essence and light of every other human being in the universe or creature in the "multiverse."
Or, maybe the other dimensions in the multiverse are Jung's Collective Unconsciousness, Edgar Cayce's Hall of Records or Napoleon Hill's Subconscious Creative Mastermind.
Or perhaps it's Starfire Tor's "Core Matrix" - it could all be different ways of envisoning the world of Quantum Mechanics. That would make Niels Bohr smile and give Einstein indigestion.
We are all a part of ONE. Hmmm...
It looks like physics and intelligent design are both arcing in the Space Time Continuum to come full circle and connect with the idea that all human beings have God-DNA (made in his image and likeness)and the vibration and light of the Creative Force of the universe within each of us.

TWO LAST THOUGHTS TO PONDER:
1) Imagine the string display before you in 3-dimensions instead of on a 2-dimensional plane. I think of it as The Wavy Gravy Universe...all connected and vibrating to God's tuning fork.
Wow...does that interconnected web look like the model for the Internet? And, the Net of Indra?
Are all the little diamonds on Facebook vibrating with the electro-magnetic waves called Tweets? I'll bet Nicola Tesla would smile at that notion.
2) Take the 7th piece of string and compress it in a WAVE pattern...see how high the wave goes and how low it goes? The more compression -the higher the high and the lower the low of the WAVE.
Looks a lot like an emotional roller-coaster ride on The Screaming Beagle to me!
And if you compress it enough, the TIME WAVE of the future will compress on the present and the present will compress on the past. TIME will become ONE and it's THE BIG CRUNCH...or deja vu all over again.
It's kinda like the Great Depression of 1929-1933 meets the Great Repression of 2008-?
Or, if something flys in from a parallel universe - one of the other dimensions created by the Intelligent Designer, then we might have a paradigm shift.
Could be a Reality Shift Manifestation? The Return of the Jedi? The return of The Messiah? The Return of the 12th Planet Nibaru and the Anunaki? Will we hear Gabriel's trumpet blare? Is it Armageddon? The Rapture, Tribulation and Judgment Day?
Or an invitation to join our extended family?
Will our inspiring new President simply step up to the microphone and introduce us to Seti I and Osiris from Sirius and my cousin, Beldar Conehead from Epsilon Bhoatis in the Star System Alpha Centuri.
I'll bet that would make Agents Muldor and Scully smile. I know Willaim Shatner would yell out, "See, I told you StarTrek was real!"
But I wonder what effect the news would have on our little pals like the Sheiks of Oilaby and Mamoud Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il??
As James Taylor would sing, we might have to "shed a little light oh Lord" - on those chaps and their followers.
I know Pope Gregory is all set to be on board, the Vatican has 2 Observatories - one in Rome and one in Arizona. Cardinal Balducci was an open spokesmen for "our brothers and sisters in the Creation."
And just a few weeks ago The Vatican convened an Astro-Biological Conference. Guess who's runnning the show?
The Jesuits. Gotta love those "black robes," the Church's resident free-thinkers.
One final question: Is there a substantive foundation way to literally put TIME and all of its limitations in a bottle?
Well that oughtta to be enough to chew on for one day...
