BIRK THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "Think small, aim low and do the very least you can. It's the easy way to exceed expectations." Feel free to quote me on this.
Dear Pals,
Is it just me?
Or is the whole world turned upside down?
It seems like I'm watching a freak show every day where the more disfunctional, divisive and perverse the person, event or activity is the more America seems to want to watch it, reward it and wallow in it.
It's like a 24-7 Carnival Freak Show where weird is the new normal in the "reality" show du jour.
In my lifetime, I've watched a progression from the idealized world of Ozzie and Harriett to The Cleavers, The Loud Family to The Wives of New York and the happy people on Dancing With The Stars or Jersey Shore.
I have to ask, "Is the world today better or worse than when I was a boy, teenager, young man and now 'mature' adult? Or, has it been this way all along and I'm just a weird old fogey?"
I just got the answer.

The greatest American Philospher of the Age, George Gobel might have said it best.
"Did you ever get the feeling that the world was a tuxedo and you were a pair of brown shoes?"
He also had these insightful observations:
"College is a place to keep warm between high school and an early marriage."
"If you build a better mousetrap, you will catch better mice."
"My uncle was the town drunk - and we lived in Chicago."

It's all too much to ponder. I think I'll go read some poetry about love and life and let the world go away for today.
