JERRY CLINTON - there was no one better.
I'll miss Jerry. I worked with him on Grey Eagle and Master Mixes projects back in the 1970s. One night at a party I gave him an old age-yellowed newspaper clipping recounting a boxing bout he fought in at the old CSMAC. He actually teared-up as he read it. Memories of South St. Louis often touched him deeply.
He loved his hometown and the ordinary Joes and Janes that made it work.
Later on we created the marketing campaign for him to help bring football back to St. Louis - The NFL-EST City. It helped re-position St. Louis as the "Established Sports Town!"
I see his photo with Walter Payton and Fran Murray in my office everyday. My old partner, Lynne Snierson, who once of the St. Louis Sun and The Boston Globe was our great NFL-connector, and Jerry loved working with her.
Jerry gave his best, nothing less.
It wasn't an effort for him.
It was his nature.
He inspired every person.
Jerry was the most "Uncommon Common Man" I ever knew.
All will miss him.

PS: I always thought the area around the football stadium should have been called Jerry Clinton Plaza. Maybe some day his hometown will honor him in that way.
