Dear Chef Matt, Libby, Kurt and Randy,
I'll get right to the point...by walking all the way around the barn.
Statistics tell me that at age 65, I'm 90.2% of the way to R.I.P. So I won't be around to afflict you with my ideas, admonitions, exhortations and wonderful sense of humor for much longer than 7 to 10 years.
Let me share a few thoughts with you...
1) Thanks for letting me be your Dad...for however long or short that individual exposure might have been. Very very, very, very short for Kurt and 135 eternities for Randy - with Chef Matt and Libby somewhere in between.
2) I hope that that experience has not scarred any of you too deeply.
3) I'm really proud of each one of you - 4 extraordinarily different people - but each one of you fiercely independent and successfully pursuing your own dreams.
DAD-LY ADVICE: Keep your eyes on the prize of your passion!
Don't hit grizzley cubs with a broomstick when they crawl in through your kitchen window to get an avacado, never hug a pit bull, if you're wearing a stewmeat necklace, go easy on the cumin, never stand under a titanium binion and always be sober when packing your own parachute before base jumping!!
4) This may come as a SHOCK. I am a very flawed person. I'll bet that I have done more stupid, irrational, selfish, boorish and hurtful things than almost anyone of whom I can think.
Married to two long-suffering women - with obviously flawed judgement in the Husband Selection category...I can say, "Always love and listen to your Mother!"
Now after 65 years on the planet. Working and earning my own living for 46 of those years, that's 70.7% of my life, I now find myself in a funny place.
I'm not complaining, explaining or whining. I make no apologies. Feel no guilt. Have no regrets or refrets. All those yesterdays are in my rearview mirror and reliving them will not add one minute to my life, one inch to my height or one ounce of happiness to my or anyone else's day.
I am having a GREAT life!
So, where is all this going? There actually is a point.
I'm worried.
Not of croaking and taking the "Big Dirt Nap." I'm worried that you and your children will grow up in an enslaved America in an increasingly dangerous world.
This may come as another SHOCK. I'm not a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Communist, Facist, Social-Democrat, or ECO-Greenie-Beanie-Weenie. I'm a Commonsenstarian.
I have been watching all kinds of people for many years. Some people are hopelessly stupid. Others are hopelessly lazy. Some are outright crooks. Others are corner-shooters, brown-nosers and ass-kissers. Some are users. Some are abusers. Some are refusers.
I feel sad for people who are and remain genuinely IGNORANT and I HATE those scumbags who manipulate their ignorance and exploit their fears and lack of education, limited knowledge and dearth of common sense.
There are also many very good people. By and large they make no news, no muss and no fuss...they just live a good life. Fair and square. They work, they contribute, they help others and they mind their own business and they don't try to tell you how to live your life.
I am an an unhypenated American and I love my country. Period.
My message to you, my dear adult children, is this. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN and you all know what's expected of you. You know that you are not entitled to anything...including sitting on your butts and bitching and moaning, fussing and cussing and blaming other people if Mr. Shitstorm comes a knockin' on your door.
Now, let's talk about your responsibilties as Citizens of the Republic.
Don't lie, cheat or steal. Don't let emotions ever get the best of your mind. Don't be a single issue voter. Don't be a feminist. Don't be a pianist. Don't play an accordian either! Don't hate whites. Don't hate blacks. Don't hate gays. Don't rely on government. Don't envy rich folks. Don't believe what any politician tells you. Don't let anybody push you around. Don't let any individual, political party or religion tell you what's up and what's down. (Me included)
Do your own research. Do dig for truth, really obtain, know math and understand facts and figures. Do live fearlessly. Do love your country. Do cherish life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Do your best. Always try to do the right-est thing.
Write your own life story, sing your own song and follow your heart's desire. And if you want to do one thing that will put a smile on a mean old angry white geezer-fart's face please vote this year! I won't presume to tell you who to vote for...or why.
If you want to know what I think, read my blogs. If you don't I'm okay with that too. I trust your judgement, thoughtfulness and well-reasoned discernment.
Here's a link I'd encourage you to read, it's a Commencement Address at Texas A&M down in College Station.

That's pretty much it...except to say, "I love you!"
Birk, (a.k.a. Dad the Dud) Commonsensetarian, Citizen of the Republic, a Mob Of One.
PS: Don't put off doing anything good.
LIVE is a verb!
Love is a pluperfect conjunctive adjectvertubal.
If people say that you're weird or crazy, just smile and say, "I got that from my Dad!"
